Jesse Smith
Jesse Smith is not merely a practitioner of the New School tattoo style; he’s a true innovator who has pushed its boundaries with his distinct vision and unparalleled skill. From his early days drawing inspiration from Garbage Pail Kids and graffiti art in Germany, he developed a unique aesthetic that marries vibrant, twisted cartoon-like figures with meticulous detail and rich storytelling. His work is characterized by bent perspectives, dynamic compositions, and an explosion of color that brings his imaginative characters to life on the skin. This highly acclaimed tattoo artist is renowned for his distinct New School approach, characterized by its quirky, colorful, and illustrative nature.
With a tattooing career spanning over two decades, starting in March of 1998, he has garnered numerous awards and features in various tattoo publications, and is recognized for his appearances on Seasons 2 and 6 of Ink Master. Beyond his artistry, Jesse is known for fostering community within the tattoo world, taking over the Richmond Tattoo and Arts Convention in 2016 to blend traditional tattoo culture with innovative elements. He operates his own studio, Loose Screw Tattoo, located in Richmond, Virginia.
